Living Seeds: 4 Year Seed Bank
The long-term storage of seed presents a number of issues that we have overcome with this product offering. The biggest issue is that seeds have differing viability, most "Seed Banks" have all of the seed in one single collection, this requires knowledge from the seed saver to ensure that they keep all of the varieties fresh. In addition once opened to remove some seed the integrity of the entire collection is compromised.
Be Advised: Before you start putting away seeds for "Just in Case" it is best to gain experience in gardening, learning how, when and where to plant different varietals in different season, each with its own demands of soil, sunlight and water. Also Get to know how to deal with different pests. This is not meant to discourage you BUT its a bit more complicated than throwing a seed into the dirt and hoping for the best!
The Livingseeds Survival Seed Banks are a unique set of three containers, each with two Mylar pouches containing identical sets of seed. The huge benefit of this system is that it gives you options. With your seed banks stored in the two separate, sealed Mylar pouches, you are able to be use each one individually, share with someone in need, split across locations or trade / sell for other items. Or you may not be a fan a particular vegetable and would barter for a seed you do like.
Who knows: You might not be a fan of a particular varietal, and bartering for another would be a convenient way to maintain your stocks.
The three seed banks have a 4 year, 6 year and 10 year shelf life based on the types of seed contained in each seed bank. The shelf life of these seed banks is conservatively based on storing seed in a temperature stable environment without major fluctuations. A cool dry shady cupboard or shelf is ideal. Keep out of direct sunlight or places that are exposed to sunlight during the course of the day.
Store on a shelf or cupboard that is preferably cool, dark and safe from rodents.
The uniqueness of the Livingseeds Survival Seed Banks split system, makes replacing only a small portion of the seed bank every few years a lot less of a strain on your wallet. This is a critical aspect of short and medium term seed varieties, where regular replacement with fresh seed is vital to long term success. This gives you the confidence that your stored seed will always be fresh when you absolutely have to rely on a good germination rate to feed your family or community.
